MUSIC OF ASTOR PIAZZOLLA
Some of the most haunting melodies ever written ...
Piazzolla is the composer and bandoneon player who revitalised tango by fusing it with classical music and jazz - thus creating the musical form known as "nuevo tango". The unique beauty of his melodies are an inspiration for jazz and classical musicians all over the world. We already play a few of his pieces, along with some by fellow nuevo tango composer Saul Cosentino, and look forward to playing more.

COOL JAZZ ON A HOT DAY
Chill out on on a long hot lazy Sunday with the grooviest outfits on the Bristol jazz scene: hip-hop icons CCQ, horn kings Silverado, far-out funkmeisters The Blessing, and The Fantastic Englishman himself headlining, Iain Ballamy. With kids workshop/performance and jam session led by keyboard wizard John Law, plus loads of other cool stuff for kids of all ages, be there or be square. The park is where it's at.
Cool Jazz on a Hot Day was, in the end, just what we had hoped - beautiful weather, great jazz, and a very enthusiastic audience of somewhere between 1000 and 2000. Chris from the park service had "never seen so many people in Frome park". Highlights for us were the toddlers dancing up on the bandstand to the hip-hop breakbeats of CCQ (apparently the first time this particular band had performed for the under-5s) and the amazing performance by the kids from John Law's workshop. You can see a few high-res photos from the event online.
Some thanks: Martin and Anne of Frome Festival for the work they put into organizing the event, Sue, Mel, Grace and Rammell for the workshops (who probably worked harder than anyone else on the day), Linda, Larry and Jon for the marquees, Louisa and Andy for the yurt, Chris of the Frome park service for his help throughout the day, June and the other Frome Carnival Association stewards, Will and his team for the PA, Jim for selling programmes (and putting up with our kids jumping on him), and Neil for running the CD stall.

SONGS OF THE SPIRIT AND THE SENSES
"Spellbinding" Venue Magazine Keith Harrison-Broninski returns to Frome Festival for another late-night candlelit concert exploring the spiritual side of jazz. This year features "his haunting settings of Ann Harrison-Broninski's beautiful early lyric poetry" (Gig of the week - The Guardian). Legendary guitarist Ray Russell, singer Emma Harris, and Ann herself reading her poetry join Keith's piano trio.
